~ Donald Fagen ~

La carrière solo de Donald Fagen commence en, 1982 avec un album
devenu culte : The Nightfly. Trente ans après sa sortie, le son qu’il propose
soutient toujours la comparaison avec les meilleurs enregistrements
d’aujourd’hui. La chanson titre de l’album, mais aussi IGY ou New Frontier
passent régulièrement sur les radios jazz de la planète. Le second album solo,
« Kamakiriad », marque les retrouvailles de Fagen et de Becker .
Ils s’étaient éloignés lors de la dissolution qu’ils pensaient définitive,
de Steely Dan en 1980. Bien que publié onze ans après The Nightfly,
il reste dans sa continuité, la majorité des morceaux y sont cependant plus
froids. L'album estampillé 2012, enfin, se veut plus léger. On y trouve,
en plus de la touche rock’soul, la marque de fabrique de Steely Dan et
de Fagen , quelques accents country au détour d’un harmonica très bien
venu ou des passages relevant autant du jazz que d’un certain
« easy listening » très californien.
