Groupe du claviériste  Dave Stewart , Hatfield and the North  est
l'une des composantes majeures de la fameuse école de Canterbury,
subdivision importante du rock progressif qui peut être définie par
une musique jazz-pop parfois expérimentale, musicalement assez marquée
par Caravan , la formation cherche aussi à se forger une véritable personnalité
en n'hésitant pas à donner libre cours à l'improvisation et surtout à sortir du
cadre restreint du format chanson, avec une certaine complexité dans les
compositions assez proche de  Egg  dans l'esprit.
La formation s'est dissoute en 1975, pour se reformer aussitôt
sous le nom de  National Health .
