 The Police  est un groupe de rock britannique issu de la génération
new wave et post-punk, formé en 1977 par  Stewart Copeland  à la batterie,
Sting  au chant et à la basse et  Henry Padovani  à la guitare.
La même année, Andy Summers  remplace Padovani . Le groupe a été
très populaire vers la fin des années 1970 et au début des années 1980 grâce à
leur musique rock, mélangeant jazz, punk et reggae. Il connut son apogée
en 1983 avec l'album " Synchronicity ". Les titres phares les plus célèbres
du groupe sont " Message in a Bottle, Walking on the Moon, Every Breath
You Take et Roxanne " dont une adaptation sous forme de tango est
présente dans la bande son du film Moulin Rouge ! de Baz Luhrmann .
The Police  est classé numéro 70 dans la liste des 100 plus grands
artistes de tous les temps du magazine  Rolling Stone .

Sting  chanteur leader et bassiste du légendaire groupe de rock anglais
The Police , nous revient avec " If on a winter's night " un hymne à l’hiver,
sa saison préférée. Cet opus de revisite des chants de Noël traditionnels
comme " the snow it melts the soonest, Gabriel's message ", qui date du XIVème
siècle, avec aussi deux compositions originales " lullaby to an anxious child " et
" the hounds of winter ".
