en California fondé en 1996 après la dissolution du groupe  Kyuss .
Il peut être classé dans le stoner rock. À l'origine baptisé  Gamma Ray  par son guitariste et chanteur  Josh Homme  et son batteur  Alfredo Hernández ,
le groupe changea pour  Queens of the Stone Age .
