T. Rex  est un groupe de rock britannique créé à la fin des années 1960 à Londres
par le chanteur  Marc Bolan . Tout d'abord nommé  Tyrannosaurus Rex , le nom
est raccourci en 1970 pour coïncider avec un changement de style dans la musique
du groupe : il passe d'un folk expérimental à un rock plus électrique qui va tout de
suite séduire un large public au Royaume-Uni. Avec les titres "Ride a White Swan,
Hot Love et Get It On", T. Rex  se hisse en tête des ventes en Grande-Bretagne
et annonce l'avènement du glam rock. Les albums Electric Warrior et The Slider,
parus respectivement en 1971 et 1972, rencontrent un succès de masse :
la T. Rexmania devient le premier phénomène musical à atteindre une telle
ampleur en Grande-Bretagne depuis la séparation des  Beatles . Les disques du
groupe sont produits par Tony Visconti qui collabore aussi durant la même
période avec un autre musicien glam-rock, David Bowie .
