U S A  -  rock  -  **

   The Velvet Underground  est un groupe de rock américain de la fin des
années 1960, lié à l'aventure de la Factory d' Andy Warhol qui les produit.
D'abord connu des seuls milieux « underground » new-yorkais, leur influence
n'a cessé de croître après leur séparation. Ils sont également une des
principales premières influences de  David Bowie (avec  Bob Dylan  entre
autres), qui, à ses débuts, chantera des reprises du Velvet dans des clubs.
 Composé de membres de caractère ( Lou Reed , Sterling Morrison ,
John Cale , Moe Tucker  et dans une moindre mesure, Nico , chacun
poursuivra une carrière solo), il a connu une grande fertilité musicale.
Les thèmes abordés reflètent l'univers personnel de  Lou Reed :
drogues dures, thèmes sadomasochistes, homosexuels, etc.
L'influence du Velvet sur les générations suivantes est incontestable :
le groupe inspirera le punk rock des années 1970 ainsi qu'une partie du
rock alternatif anglophone, du glam rock et de la New Wave.
