Abacus  est une formation germano-britannique fondée en 1971,
qui enregistra quatre albums, le groupe se sépara en 1976 pour divergences musicales.
L’histoire du groupe est peuplée de changements incessants de line-up, au point qu’aucun
des musiciens actuels n’appartenait à la formation d’origine. Depuis sa résurrection en 1979,
c’est le claviériste  Jürgen Wimpelberg  qui joue le rôle de fil rouge, seul rescapé de la
formation qui a interprété " Destiny ". Un cinquième album paru en l'an 2001, intitulé
" Fire Behind Bars ", avec le multi-instrumentiste  Jürgen Wimpelberg  nous propose une
musique pop-rock progressive dès plus agréable avec des envolées épiques digne du
meilleur  Emerson Lake & Palmer .
